Clinical Context
Used when providing anesthesia for lumbar puncture, particularly in pediatric patients, anxious adults, or patients requiring sedation for cooperation. Diagnostic LPs evaluate for meningitis, subarachnoid hemorrhage, or CSF abnormalities. Therapeutic LPs treat idiopathic intracranial hypertension.
