Clinical Context
Used when providing anesthesia for inferior vena cava ligation, plication, or clip application. Historically performed for recurrent pulmonary embolism when anticoagulation is contraindicated. Now largely replaced by percutaneous IVC filter placement, but still indicated in select cases.
