Anesthesia for transurethral procedures involving resection of the prostate (TURP). Covers general or spinal anesthesia for endoscopic removal of obstructing prostatic tissue through the urethra.
Clinical Context
Used when providing anesthesia for transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Risk of TUR syndrome (hyponatremia from irrigant absorption), especially with monopolar resection. Spinal anesthesia preferred for early detection of mental status changes from TUR syndrome.
