Anesthesia for open procedures on the upper two-thirds of the femur involving amputation. Covers general anesthesia for above-knee amputation (transfemoral amputation) at the proximal or mid-femur level.
Clinical Context
Used when providing anesthesia for above-knee amputation through the upper two-thirds of the femur. Common indications include peripheral vascular disease with gangrene, trauma, and malignancy. Spinal anesthesia may be preferred. Consideration for phantom limb pain prevention with perioperative nerve blocks.
