Used when providing anesthesia for venous thrombectomy of the lower leg for acute deep venous thrombosis. Rarely performed as most DVTs are managed medically; surgical thrombectomy reserved for phlegmasia cerulea dolens or cases refractory to anticoagulation and catheter-directed therapy.
