Viper venom prothrombin time test uses Russell viper venom to specifically activate Factor X, bypassing Factors V, VII, VIII, and IX to assess common pathway coagulation function.

Clinical Context

Used to diagnose lupus anticoagulant and other inhibitors affecting the common coagulation pathway. More sensitive than standard PT for certain coagulation disorders.
