Thrombin time test measures the time for plasma to clot after thrombin addition, assessing fibrinogen quantity and quality and detecting circulating inhibitors of thrombin.
Clinical Context
Used to evaluate fibrinogen defects, liver disease, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and effects of anticoagulation therapy or heparin. Sensitive to fibrinogen dysfunction.
