Serologic testing to detect antibodies against Rickettsia species, gram-negative intracellular bacteria that cause spotted fever group and typhus group diseases. Identifies exposure to rickettsial infections.

Clinical Context

Indicated in suspected cases of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, other spotted fever group rickettsioses, or typhus group infections. Patient history may include tick exposure in endemic areas.
