Serologic testing to detect antibodies against rotavirus, the most common cause of acute gastroenteritis in infants and young children worldwide. Identifies current or past rotavirus infection.

Clinical Context

Primarily used to confirm acute rotavirus gastroenteritis in young children presenting with acute diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. Also useful for seroepidemiologic studies and vaccine response assessment.
