Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for gallstones is a non-invasive technique using shock waves to fragment gallstones, allowing passage through the bile duct or excretion.

Clinical Context

Used for non-surgical treatment of gallstone disease in select patients with radiolucent stones and patent cystic duct. Reduces need for cholecystectomy in appropriate candidates.
