Also known as: radical mastectomy, Halsted mastectomy
Surgical removal of the breast and underlying chest wall muscles (pectoralis major and minor) along with ipsilateral axillary, internal mammary, and supraclavicular lymph nodes. This is an extensive procedure.
Clinical Context
Historically used for advanced breast cancer; less commonly performed today due to availability of less morbid alternatives. May still be used for locally advanced disease or specific patient circumstances.
