Surgical removal of a thyroglossal duct cyst or remnant, typically through an open incision, with removal of the tract from the foramen cecum to the thyroid isthmus.

Clinical Context

Performed for infected or enlarging thyroglossal duct cysts, the most common congenital neck mass. Sistrunk procedure includes en bloc removal of cyst, entire tract, central hyoid bone, and tissue above foramen cecum to prevent recurrence.
