Reoperation or re-exploration of parathyroid glands in a patient with prior parathyroid surgery, typically performed for persistent or recurrent hyperparathyroidism.
Clinical Context
Performed when initial parathyroidectomy fails to achieve eucalcemia or when hyperparathyroidism recurs. More technically challenging due to scar tissue, fibrosis, and altered anatomy from prior surgery.
