Surgical incision and sectioning of the vagal trunk or branches to the stomach. Historically used to reduce gastric acid secretion in peptic ulcer disease.
Clinical Context
Historically important surgical treatment for peptic ulcer disease before the advent of proton pump inhibitors. Now rarely performed. May be considered in rare refractory cases.
