Surgical incision or transection of the vestibulocochlear nerve (cranial nerve VIII) or division of the vestibular nerve to treat vertigo.

Clinical Context

Used for intractable vertigo from Meniere's disease or BPPV when hearing preservation desired. Eliminates vestibular function.
