Serum immunoelectrophoresis separates serum proteins by electric charge and identifies specific immunoglobulin classes, detecting immunoglobulin abnormalities and monoclonal proteins.

Clinical Context

Used to detect monoclonal proteins in multiple myeloma, light chain disease, and Waldenström macroglobulinemia. Identifies abnormal immunoglobulin peaks.
