Dilation and curettage is a procedure in which the cervical canal is dilated and the endometrial lining is scraped to remove tissue for diagnostic evaluation or therapeutic purposes.
Clinical Context
Diagnostic use for abnormal uterine bleeding and therapeutic use for retained products of conception following miscarriage or induced abortion. Increasingly replaced by hysteroscopy for visualization.
